Category A1 Rules For Motorcyclists

The rules for category a1 apply to those who want to operate small motorcycles. These motorcycles have a maximum cylinder capacity of 35 kW. They are not derived directly from vehicles with more than double their power.

The open category of drone operations can be subdivided into three categories: A1 to A3. You can fly drones that have the class label C0 or A1 in the subcategory A1 (flying over people) up to January 2024.

A1

Category A1 is one of the three EASA drone categories and applies to aircraft with a maximum take-off mass (MTOM) of up to 25 kilograms. It requires a record of flight, a flight plan and an identification system for remote use and a geoawareness. The drone should be in the view of the pilot at all at all times. It is not permitted to fly in the vicinity of people or areas used for commercial, recreational or industrial reasons. The drone should also remain at a minimum of 120 meters above ground level.

A1 applicants must have a minimum 16 years experience in riding two-wheeled vehicles. They must also complete the mandatory basic training and pass an exam in theory and a practical test. They also need to have an authentic medical certificate.

A1 license holders are able to use two-wheeled mopeds as long as their capacity of cylinder is not more than 125 cc and their power to weight ratio is not more than 0.1 kW/kg. They are also able to operate motorcycles with a cylinder capacity of no more than 125 cc, as well as quad bikes and trikes.

The category A1 driving license is designed to give easier access to the next category, which permits license holders to drive vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of up 35 kW. This allows you to get experience driving smaller-powered vehicles before moving up to higher categories of licence.


Until January 1, 2024, current drones that don't have a CE mark can be flown within the subcategory of A1. They are safe and do not pose a significant threat to the general population. A2

You can also fly drones that have an maximum weight of 4kg in the A2 category however, they must be kept at a safe distance away from people during take-off and landing. A2 permits you to fly transitional drones that aren't yet CE-marked, but have been modified to reduce collision risks with people. These drones will be permitted to fly in A2 until end of 2022. After this, they will have to adhere to the A3 regulations.

The A1 and A2 categories are designed to aid you in becoming a safer and confident motorcyclist. The number of lessons you'll require depends on your level of ability and progress, but a predetermined amount of special rides should be completed. This includes a minimum of five lessons on country roads or highways, as well as three at dawn or in darkness.

A3

This type of flight is for drones with the maximum mass for take-off of up to 25 kg. It is a lower-risk operation, but strict precautions should be taken to mitigate potential incidents. Like the Open category, this tier is divided into subcategories A1, A2 and A3. The certificate of competence to fly Category A2 is awarded after successful completion of this test.

There are  transitional arrangements that allow legacy drones, that are not certified, to operate under categories A1 and/or A2 for a period of two years following the introduction of the new EU regulations. The drones of the past cannot be intentionally flown above people and must be operated with an A2 CofC.

To operate a drone that falls under this category you must pass the standard online flyer ID test, and then complete an additional test in the theory department. You must also prove that you have some actual knowledge of your drone and submit a written declaration of competency. These requirements are similar to the driving license model which means that drivers who first get their license for a vehicle of a lower category is then able to move on to a higher category.

A4

The DOH is currently preparing specific guidelines to be used for category A4. These guidelines will be compatible with other operations, and will include information such as the number of dressings that are changed each day. These guidelines will be presented to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infections, (IATF-EID) as well as the DOH National Immunization Technical Advisory Group. The IATF EID and the DOH National Immunization Technical Advisory Group will review and approve the guidelines prior to being finalized.

In this category, drones with the class identification labels C0 and C1 are permitted to fly within a minimum distance of 50 metres of uninvolved people. This is a low-risk subcategory, but stringent precautions must be taken to mitigate incidents. Drones classified as A1 or A2 must be able to pass an additional theoretical test in order to operate in this subcategory.

This test is designed to measure your understanding of the additional risks that are associated when flying drones are in close proximity to humans. The certificate of competence is awarded upon the successful completion of this test. The pilot must maintain at least 30 meters from any non-involved person, or 5 meters when flying in slow flight mode.

You will need to take a certain amount of lessons to pass the theory test and then you have to pass the practical test. This amount varies depending on your age, abilities and learning speed. However, a minimum of 12 lessons of 90 minutes are required to be completed.

During these lessons, you will familiarize yourself with your vehicle and traffic regulations. Moreover, you will receive useful tips for driving in difficult places. You should also take part in a certain number of special rides in addition to the mandatory driving lessons.

The new category E effectively combines the classes A1 (retail), A2 (financial services and professional services), B1 (offices), A4 (restaurants/cafes), and A5 and B5 for hot food takeaway. It also includes medical/healthy uses such as creches and nurseries, and indoor recreation facilities. The new licensing system is expected to simplify and reduce costs. It will also allow landlords to use their properties in ways not currently permitted.
